Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Gradually add boiling water, mixing until smooth.
- Stir in sliced strawberries and chocolate chips.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer comes out clean.
- Cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Heat heavy cream until simmering. Pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit for 1 minute, then whisk until smooth.
- Spread ganache evenly over one cake layer.
- Place the second cake layer on top. Spread remaining ganache over the top layer.
- Garnish with strawberries, if desired. Let the ganache set slightly before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
